Resolution, Pixels and Mega Pixels in Digital Photography

Many people don’t know the difference between image resolution and picture actual dimensions. Sometimes, clients come in a digital photography workshop and ask for an image of 300 dpi, not realizing that this only refers to pixel density and gives no idea about the actual size of the picture. Because people are so used to normal photos, seeing a digital once does not tell them much about its dimensions. When talking about a classic picture, we can for instance say that is has 13 x 18 centimeters and everyone understands what we’re talking about. In digital photography, all three variables are needed to define a photo, length, width and density.
the provenience of the word pixel comes from “pictures elements”, for short, Pixel, and these are considered to be the smallest divisions of a digital photography image. As centimeters are the defining units for tangible photos, pixels will be the ones that best define digital photos. For example we say we have an image of 2000 x 1500 pixels. But people can’t tell how much a pixel means, because there are no real tangible dimensions to define it, so we also use picture resolution.
The resolution in digital photography is actually a density measure, of how many pixels can be found in one inch or in one centimeter. Remember the dpi concept previously mentioned? So, once we know this density, we can associate it with the dimensions in pixels and we can find out the actual dimensions of that picture, if we ever wanted to print it out.
years ago, digital photography was limited to low resolution because images could not be immortalized in high quality. This is why everyone considers mega pixels so important. This mega pixel number shows the amount of pixels a camera can process and transform at a certain moment and the higher it is, the better the camera sales.
People tend to look only at this big and bold number when they buy a camera, but it is not the only measure of quality. Lenses are very important, and so is the storing capacity device and the battery life. photo printing services
